“Progress, not perfection” requires a level of transparency. Waiting for perfection is like waiting at a bus stop for a bus that never comes.
This can be difficult if you’re like me. I have a tendency to want everything to be just right before considering a task complete. While this can be a good quality to possess in many situations, it can also lead to projects left unfinished, others never started, and ultimately burnout. Perhaps this is why I never got around to having a Tableau Public profile…
Sometimes you just need to start… As you will find in my first diary entry, I felt there was need to start compiling a list of resources specific to DataDevs (data developers). For those starting out, the number of articles, presentations and tools available can feel endless and overwhelming. I began making a list of those resources that I found to be useful and started sharing with the Tableau community. However, I felt limited by what I could fit within a post or status update. After all, the information I was sharing was just as disorganized as when I found it. It was then that the idea of producing a website started to creep in.
But I’ve never put together a website. Don’t I need to make sure it’s polished and complete before making it available? No. Just get started. Wasn’t that the whole point? Do I have the embedding API figured out? No. Python scripts? Not yet. Langchain? Not even close. However, my goal is to give back to a community of people who have given so much to me.
You may find the headers to be off at times, colors or fonts may change. UI will likely change over time. You won’t find AI generated posts. If you look hard enough, you may even find the occasional run on sentence, comma overuse, or the incorrect use of capital letters.
So here we go… Feel free to come along for the ride. Hop on or off at any time. Perhaps we can learn something together or at least help you along your own journey.
